twzERD - online entity relationship diagrams

twzERD is an online tool for creating simple database entity relationship diagrams (ERD). It's suitable for small databases of less than about 20 tables (more with a higher screen resolution). Here's an example of the kind of thing I'm talking about:

    sample ERD layout

This project was started as a fun little exercise for myself, and was never going to be made public - but here it is. It's fairly restrictive in what it can do, and is certainly no match for proper drawing or charting applications. But if your requirements are simple (which many of my custom databases are) then twzERD might be of use to you.

Updated Oct 2019 - it's now MUCH nicer than the earlier version!

twzERD should work in any modern browser, but won't work on a phone, tablet or other touchscreen device.

For more information and to try it out, go to twzERD online.

Hi Wouter
I haven't looked at this script for a few years. I'll contact you directly about this.

Sure is a nice tool, i'd like to set one up to use. How do I get ahold of it?

Hi Dan
I've sent you the source code of the demo version, such as it is.

About a year ago I started working on a much nicer version, where you can create relationships by dragging from one box to another; and the lines can be stepped, straight or bezier curves.

Unfortunately I got sidetracked again, and the new version hasn't been completed (yet?)

We've now updated twzERD - it's heaps better! At this stage we won't be releasing the source code, but it's always available to use at the link above.

If you desperately want a copy of twzERD for yourself, let me know and I'll contact you when it's finally released.
